a recruiting strategy in need of repair

For this growing skin-care brand, hiring talented beauty advisors to introduce and evangelize its products to consumers at retail locations is key to continued success. But due to changes in its business model, the company hadn’t hired beauty advisors for three years. However, in order to meet new sales objectives and sudden demand for its products, it was ready to hire for these roles once again.

As it began the process of hiring beauty advisors at more than 300 locations across all 50 states in the U.S., the company faced a number of challenges. Local managers were recruiting on their own, and even created and posted job ads themselves. With limited time and resources to focus on these tasks, talent attraction, sourcing, screening, interviewing and onboarding processes — and candidate experiences — were inconsistent across locations. While beauty advisor roles are typically highly sought-after, the company faced challenges reaching talent in remote locations.

The company knew it needed to free up managers’ time by removing the recruiting tasks from their plates. At the same time, it hoped to deliver consistent and compliant hiring practices, and to attract right-fit talent who could be strong advocates for the brand. As a result, the company sought outside help to achieve these hiring goals.

a new formula for hiring success

To elevate its recruiting strategy, the company adopted recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) program, delivered by Randstad Sourceright, a part of Randstad Enterprise.

In particular, the skin-care company benefits from a recruiter on demand (ROD), which provides access to a team of highly skilled recruiters to handle the sourcing and screening of beauty advisor candidates and removes the administrative burden that managers previously faced. Additionally, to simplify another layer of complexity and further ensure compliance, the program also includes payroll services; after the ROD sources the talent, Randstad Sourceright hires and onboards the talent, where they become Randstad employees.

With tight time constraints, the RPO program was up and running in less than six weeks, enabling recruiters to quickly get started on hiring the talent the company needs. Through this model, the skin-care brand sends referrals to the ROD team, which then screens talent and extends offers to qualified candidates. The ROD team also assists with sourcing, using popular skin-care groups on social media to post job ads and start conversations with potential candidates, for example.

Throughout the process, the ROD team ensures a consistent and positive candidate experience. This extends to the onboarding phase as well, when they help candidates through the entire process and make sure they feel comfortable and ready as they begin their new jobs.

This high-touch approach — for talent and internal managers alike — has been crucial to the company’s new recruiting strategies. Along with strong communications between the ROD team and company leaders and managers, such as weekly calls to review goals, the company has real-time insight into the latest results and successes, while quickly addressing any challenges that occur.

recruiting gets a glow-up

The company has already seen significant improvements in its hiring practices already. In the first four months alone, the company has hired 340 beauty advisors through a mix of internal referrals and candidates sourced by the ROD team. For all candidates, the RPO program ensures a smooth, consistent and compliant process, while company leaders gain full visibility into scheduling and spend.

With a new process for securing talent, the company is better prepared to achieve its business objectives and it has already exceeded sales expectations at many of its locations. Company leaders also receive positive feedback from candidates and managers alike, who appreciate the quick and high-touch recruiting process.
